Here, then, is the real problem of our negligence. We fail in our duty to study God's Word
not so much because it is difficult to understand,
not so much because it is dull and boring,
but because it is work.
Our problem is not a lack of intelligence or a lack of passion.
Our problem is that we are lazy.
not so much because it is difficult to understand,
not so much because it is dull and boring,
but because it is work.
Our problem is not a lack of intelligence or a lack of passion.
Our problem is that we are lazy.

The Disciple’s Reward:
The final command that Jesus gave to his followers was to make disciples throughout the nations. This commandment is no less a qualification for being a believer today then it was in the early days of the church.
And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying,
"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you;
and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20 NASB
It is noteworthy that Jesus made the teachings of His commands a prerequisite for being named among His disciples. This is because His commands are meant to be guideposts for a victorious Christian life.
The flip side of this coin is, if we disregard His commands we will find our lives in conflict and confusion. This is why Jesus made this a high priority for all His followers telling them,
“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments;
and His commandments are not burdensome.”
1 John 5:3 NASB
Jesus promises us great rewards if we will simply follow His commands and keep them in the forefront of our thinking. He proclaims that the way in which we demonstrate our love for Him is simply by keeping his commandments.
“He who has My commandments and keeps them
is the one who loves Me;
and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father,
and I will love him and will disclose (manifest) Myself to him."
John 14:21 NASB
There are many rewards for being a disciple of the Lord; here are just a few:
Our prayers will be answered:
"and whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight."
1 John 3:22 NASB
We will have the assurance of our love of God
"By this we know that we have come to know Him,
if we keep His commandments."
1 John 2:3 NASB
"If you love Me, you will keep My commandments."
John 14:15
God will reveal Himself to us
"He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me;
and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father,
and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him."
John 14:21 NASB
Our love for the Body of Christ will emerge
"By this we know that we love the children of God,
when we love God and observe His commandments."
1 John 5:2 NASB
We will abide in God’s love
"He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me;
and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father,
and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him."
John 14:21 NASB
