Keep On Keeping On

"Trouble always comes whenever
we begin to take credit for any of the gifts of the Spirit,
be they gifts of prayer, tongues, prophecy, art, science....
Modern medicine suffers, despite all its advances,
because it has almost completely forgotten
that healing is a gift as well as a science."
Madeleine L'Engle

Keep On Keeping On:

Keep waiting
On Him
Keep working
With Him
Keep watching
For Him

When Stanley went out in 1871 and found Dr. Livingston,
he spent some months in his company,
but Livingston never spoke with Stanley about spiritual matters.
Throughout those months Stanley watched the old man closely.
Livingston’s habits were simply beyond his comprehension, and so was his patience.
He could not understand Livingston’s sympathy
for the African people he served.
For the sake of Christ and His gospel,
the missionary doctor exhibited patience
and untiring zeal for the needs of the people
to the point of utter exhaustion.
Stanley wrote, “When I saw that unwearied patience,
that unflagging zeal, for those enlightened sons of Africa,
and I became a Christian at his side,
though he never spoke to me about it.”

One of the most effective ministries we can embark upon
is simply to take the nature of Christ in us to the world around us.
“They will know them by their love”
As we endeavor to serve others in the love of Christ
the value of a live devoted to Christ becomes apparent to others.

Let us, “...press toward the goal for the prize
of the upward call of God
in Christ Jesus"
Philippians 3:14 (NKJV)

Harnessed for Battle

“Whenever the enemy tries to bring us back under anxiety
we may separate ourselves from it by thanking God that the problem is His
instead of once again assuming the care of it ourselves.”
Robin McMillan – “David’s 400”

Harnessed for Battle:

In the thirteenth chapter of Exodus,
there is a curious juxtaposition in verses seventeen and eighteen.
In verse seventeen, the children of Israel
have just been delivered from captivity in Egypt
and the Lord leads them, not to the promised land
through the land of the Philistines (a war like and sinful people),
but he takes them into the wilderness saying:

17Now when Pharaoh had let the people go,
God did not lead them
by the way of the land of the Philistines,
even though it was near; for God said,
"The people might change their minds (repent*)
when they see war, and return to Egypt."
Exodus 13:17 NASB [my emphasis bold]

In the very next verse there seems to be a contradiction in the account:

“But God led the people about,
through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea:
and the children of Israel went up harnessed* out of the land of Egypt.”
Exodus 13:18 (KJV) [my emphasis bold]

I have emphasized these two words (in these two verses)
to look at a little closer, in order to focus on this seemingly inconsistent account.

The word repent (Strongs 5162) is from the
Hebrew word nacham [naw cham]
this word means:
to sigh or breath strongly (as from fear)
to be sorry
or pity ones previous action or choice
to rue, pity or repent

So here we have the picture of a people who have:

1- been held in captivity for four hundred years
2- been dramatically and miraculously rescued
and lead out of bondage
3- now being sorry,
and quite frankly “being scared to death”
and wanting to go back to captivity
rather than face the unknown,
or possibility of retaliation from Pharaoh

In today’s language we would probably say they were
“shaking in their boots”.

In the very next verse
the Spirit of God tells us they were “harnessed.”

The word harnessed (Strongs 2571)
is from the
Hebrew word chamush
[khaw moosh]

this word means: to be staunch,
able bodied soldiers
well armed, stout, or harnessed

Here we have quite a different picture
of a people who are marching as an army
totally equipped and ready for battle,
having been trained and armed for the fight,
and willingly ready to enter with purpose and fortitude.

What a curious juxtaposition the Holy Spirit gives us here.

The Old Testament accounts are filled
with “types” and “shadows” of eternal truths,
that are brought to fruition in the New Testament church.

Indeed scripture makes it clear
that the very physical battles
that the nation of Israel faced
are mirrors of the spiritual battles
that each of us face today
both individually and corporately.

“All these things happened unto them for ensamples:
and they are written for our admonition,
upon whom the ends of the world are come.”
I Corinthians 10:11

It is so easy for us to look back
at the accounts given in God’s Word and say:
“How could they have been so foolish...
couldn’t they see what God was doing right before their eyes...
how could Peter have denied Jesus?”

Yet these verses, I believe, have
a very real and very timely word for us as Christians today.

In this Old Testament situation
there is a spiritual parallel
to our personal walk with the Lord today,
as well as to the churches.

Have we not been as the children of Israel?

1- They were held captive in Egypt.
We were held captive in Sin.

2- They were delivered miraculously
by the mighty hand of God
from the bondage of Egypt and the rule of Pharaoh
We have been delivered miraculously by
the mighty hand of God
by faith in His dear Son,
from the bondage of sin (Egypt)
and the rule of Satan (Pharaoh)

3- They were equipped for battle...
given the example
that God would fight their battles for them
if they would only trust and obey Him....

“And all the assembly shall know that the Lord
saveth not with sword and spear:
for the battle is the Lord’s,
and he will give you into our hands.”

[spoken by David
as he prepared to fight Goliath]
I Samuel 17:47

but....they could not consistently see this
and time after time they fell back into bondage
and lost battles because of their low view of God.

We as Christians today,
stand victorious in Christ Jesus
Hallelujah!
We are equipped and ready for battle...
in Him because “the Battle is” still “the Lord’s” but He has said:
“It is finished!” (John 19:30)

So many times I see myself and brothers, sisters
struggling with this issue of being equipped for battle,
but not being harnessed to the understanding and faith
which enables us to move out in the authority and power
that Christ has given us.

How many times I have fallen short of the mark
because I allowed “the prince of this world”
to block my vision of the Ancient of Days.

Without vision the people perish says Proverbs 29:18.

How often do we struggle with returning to the comfort zone
of our sin (our Egypt)
and submit to the task-master-pharaoh (satan)
rather than to step out in faith
and confront the enemy and smite him
in the awesome power of the Lord.

“As a dog returneth to his vomit,
so a fool returneth to his folly.”
Proverbs 26:11

The Christian today who is effective for the gospel of Jesus Christ
is one who is harnessed to the yolk of the Master,
one who knows and heeds the voice of The Good Shepherd,
one who has an intimate relationship
in prayer, praise and meditation –
times of intimacy with the Author and Finisher of their faith.
One who walks in the light, and is lead by the Spirit,
is equipped and able to do battle.

“For though we walk in the flesh,
we do not war after the flesh:
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal,
but mighty through God
to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Casting down imaginations,
and every high thing that exalteth itself
against the knowledge of God,
and bringing into captivity
every thought to the obedience of Christ;
And having in a readiness to revenge
all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.”
II Corinthians 10:3-6

May the Lord God Almighty
give us vision to see Him face to face

Finding Happiness

Be he king or peasant,
Who finds peace in his home
Shall be happy.

Finding Happiness:

Where is happiness found?

Not in unbelief -
Voltaire was an infidel of the most pronounced type.
He wrote: "I wish I had never been born."

Not in pleasure -
Lord Byron lived a life of pleasure, if anyone did.
He wrote: "The worm, the canker, and the grief are mine alone."

Not in money -
Jay Gould, the American millionaire, had plenty of that.
When dying he said:
"I suppose that I am the most miserable man on Earth."

Not in position or fame -
Lord Beaconsfield enjoyed more than his share of both.
He wrote "Youth is a mistake, manhood a struggle, old age a regret."

Not in military glory -
Alexander the Great conquered the known world in his day. Having done so, he wept, because, he said:
"There are no more worlds to conquer."

Where then is happiness found?
The answer is simple:
In Christ alone!

He said:
"I will see you again,
and your heart will rejoice,
and your joy no man can take away from you."
May the Joy of the Lord be your strength…

Be he king or peasant,
Who finds peace in his home
Shall be happy.

Jesus is the Prince of Peace!

Sonship

“As Christians our standard of living
can never be “right or wrong”,
but the Cross.
The principle of the Cross
is our principle of conduct.”
Watchman Nee To-sheng: (Sit, Walk, Stand)

Sonship:

“For though we walk in the flesh,
we do not war according to flesh.
For the weapons of our warfare
are not carnal
but mighty in God
for pulling down strongholds,
casting down arguements
and every high thing
that exalts itself against
the knowledge of God,
bringing every thought
into captivity
to the obedience of Christ.”
(II Corinthians 10:3-5 NKJV; my emphasis: bold)

Here lies the simple answer,
the principle to living a victorious
life in Christ....conformity to Christ....
that we might today live as the image of Christ.
A lofty goal?
No, a command of God!

We must come to the Cross of Christ,

24Then Jesus said to His disciples,
"If anyone wishes to come after Me,
he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.
Matthew 16:24NASB

to live the victorious life of Christ

20"I have been crucified with Christ;
and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;
and the life which I now live in the flesh
I live by faith in the Son of God,
who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
Galatians 2:20NASB

so that others will come to Christ.

8but you will receive power
when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;
and you shall be My witnesses
both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria,
and even to the remotest part of the earth."
Acts 1:8NASB

The world around us is crying for their rights,
and the subtle message can easily permeates our thinking.

So the need to renew our thinking
in the mind of Christ each day.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10 NASB

16 Therefore we do not lose heart,
but though our outer man is decaying,
yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.
II Corinthians 4:16 NASB

23and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
24and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God

has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
Ephesians 4:23-24 NASB

We have nothing to demand, nor any rights to stand for,
but only to give in grace that which we have received in grace.

When our Master died on the Cross,
He didn’t do so to secure our “rights”
He did so that we might be changed by His grace.

“That you may be sons of your Father which is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:45NASB

The question is not rights...
the question is son-ship,
demonstrated to a lost and dying world around us.

Living with you, in the victory He has won!

Part 7 - Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves

“A false prophet uses his God-entrusted gifts to draw others to himself.
A true prophet draws them to the heart of God.”
John Bevere: Thus Saith The Lord (p.139)

Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves – Part 7

“Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves;
be wary and wise as serpents,
and be innocent
(harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves.”
Matthew 10:16 Amplified bible

Why does Jesus send His sheep out among the wolves?

This directive of the Lord seems in the natural to make little sense.
But it is based on a profound truth,
every believer overcomes by his/her death
rather than by his/her life.
Jesus Himself was the ultimate demonstration of this spiritual principle
by His death on the Cross.
He conquered satan and death by His own death.
“O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
1 Corinthians 15:55 Amplified Bible
Jesus called His disciples and us today to lay down our lives
for the sake of the Gospel and the furtherance of His kingdom.

For whoever wants to save his [higher, spiritual, eternal] life,
will lose it [the lower, natural, temporal life
which is lived only on earth];
and whoever gives up his life [which is lived only on earth]
for My sake and the Gospel's will save it
[his higher, spiritual life in the eternal kingdom of God].”
Mark 8:35 Amplified Bible

Laying down our lives is a daily choice
to place the good of the kingdom
ahead of our own will and earthly desires.

It seems incredible that Jesus would lay down His life for us
and then send us out as sheep among packs of wolves.
There would be no contest in such a lopsided match,
except for one detail –
Jesus has not sent us out alone.
Jesus is walking with us every step of the way,
and He has already secured our victory.

“Teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you,
and behold, I am with you all the days
(perpetually, uniformly, and on every occasion),
to the [very] close and consummation of the age.
Amen (so let it be).”
Matthew 28:20 Amplified Bible

Sheep are meant to stay close to their faithful shepherd.

“I am the Vine; you are the branches.
Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit.
However, apart from Me
[cut off from vital union with Me]
you can do nothing.”
John 15:5 Amplified Bible

If the sheep wander away from the protective care of the shepherd,
fail to hear or obey his voice,
or forget that they are in enemy territory,
they may well be torn apart and devoured.

Daily we must affirm our dependency on Christ as our Good Shepherd.
Daily acknowledge to God our inadequacies and our need for Him,
His provision and His protection.
Daily strive to respond to verbal assaults with wise discerning queries.
Daily as God for the Holy Spirit’s control
over our minds, will and emotions.
Daily avoid evil from entering lives, by guarding our eyes and ears.
Daily test the spirit to discern good from evil.
Daily ask God to let His Spirit have His way in our lives.
Daily trust the Lord to bring the truth of His Word to our minds,
that we might respond to attacks in wisdom.
Daily ask God for wisdom and His will to be done in our lives.

May we delight in God’s decrees, and never neglect His Word.

Part 6 - Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves

“There are three kinds of people:
those who have sought God and found him,
and these are reasonable and happy;
those who seek God and have not yet found him,
and these are reasonable and unhappy;
and those who neither seek God nor find him,
and these are unreasonable and unhappy.”
Blaise Pascal

Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves – Part 6

“Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves;
be wary and wise as serpents,
and be innocent
(harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves.”
Matthew 10:16 Amplified bible

The Mouths of Wolves:

Both wolves and snakes can inflict serious damage with their teeth.
David often reflected on the painful encounters
he had with the biting words of his persecutors.

“Be merciful and gracious to me, O God,
be merciful and gracious to me,
for my soul takes refuge
and finds shelter and confidence in You;
yes, in the shadow of Your wings will I take refuge
and be confident until calamities
and destructive storms are passed.
My life is among lions;
I must lie among those who are aflame—
the sons of men whose teeth are spears and arrows,
their tongues sharp swords.”
Psalm 57:1,4 Amplified Bible

David experienced the pain of sharp words
not only with strangers,
but also with those who were very close to him.

“I behaved as if grieving for my friend or my brother;
I bowed down in sorrow, as one who bewails his mother.
But in my stumbling and limping
they rejoiced and gathered together [against me];
the smiters (slanderers and revilers) gathered against me, and I knew them not;
they ceased not to slander and revile me.
Like profane mockers at feasts
[making sport for the price of a cake]
they gnashed at me with their teeth.”
Psalm35:14-16 Amplified Bible

We are to be ready to respond like Jesus did,
with words of wisdom for every situation in which we are verbally attacked.
“The mind of the wise instructs his mouth,
and adds learning and persuasiveness to his lips.”
Proverbs 16:23 Amplified Bible

We should anticipate the questions of “wolves”
or “wolves disguised in sheep’s clothing.”
We are as likely to be challenged from within the body as from without;
most especially when we embrace moves of God
that are a little (or a lot) “outside the box.”

In recent weeks I have been following the outpouring of the Spirit
in Lakeland, Florida (Spring-Summer 2008).
There is no doubt that God is moving –
there have been a continuous stream of confirmed miracles
related to this revival… salvations, deliverances,
and miracles of healing and even twelve verified accounts (at last count)
of the raising of the dead!
The move of God has even gotten the attention of the national press and T.V.
Services have been streamed world-wide over God T.V. and the internet.
Yet, it hasn’t been the press or T.V. anchors who have raised the voice of doubt,
or the cry of skepticism – it’s the church,
“men of God” who have openly criticized these outpourings of the Spirit
as “emotionalism,” and “not of God.”
They have pointed to Todd Bentley and proclaimed his a phony,
because he doesn’t fit their profile of one who can be used of God.
‘After all’, they surmise, ‘the man has been in prison,
he is covered in tattoos (which are forbidden in Leviticus),
and he actually has body piercings!’
This kind of criticism is nothing new in the kingdom.
When John the Baptist showed up on the scene,
to announce the coming of Christ’s kingdom,
and to identify the Lamb of God Himself,
the religious rulers of the time mocked him –
‘after all look at how he dresses, and his breath stinks from eating locusts!’
‘He doesn’t adhere to our view, or bow down to our presuppositions
of what a leader in the synagogue should look like, or how he should behave!’
‘He doesn’t fit the mould, so out he goes with the bathwater!’
At every occasion they sought how they might kill this
“out-of-the-box” unorthodox “religious fanatic!”

Just recently a pastor from the Lakeland area,
decided to go and see for himself what “all the commotion was about.”
He entered the service with a heart of pure skepticism,
himself not believing that miracles were for today.
To make matters worse, when he arrived
he had forgotten his pastoral identification,
so they would not allow him early entry and to be seated in a place of honor.
He was extremely upset by this,
because they refused to take his word that he was a pastor.
He had to enter when the doors were opened with all the masses!
As it turned out he wound up well in the rear of the arena
by the time the worship started.
The music and worship team was also not to his liking –
it was way out of his “box.”
During the worship service he noticed a blind man standing near him.
He had been lead into the arena by family, and he carried a white cane.
When he looked into the man’s eyes he saw that they were totally white.
There was absolutely no color, no pupils, this man was totally blind from birth.
Cynically, this pastor thought:
“Well, if this is real, let’s see this man healed!”
Within moments of his thought he heard the man cry out – “My eyes, my eyes!”
The pastor was close by so he looked over and witnessed the hand of the Lord,
as He formed an iris in each white eye, and then black pupils appeared…
within seconds the man was jumping up and down and screaming…
"I can see!... I can see!”
The pastor was not only amazed at having witnessed such a miracle,
but he was instantly convicted of all the years of doubt
that had filled his heart, and all his teachings from his own pulpit
that denied modern day miracles.
He received his own miracle in that instant… a miracle of belief!
This man was healed during the worship,
no one had prayed for him (not that night anyway),
God just showed up in His grace and mercy and made two blind men see…
one physically and one spiritually!
O.K., O.K., I know… I’m on a rabbit trail… (but a good one, don’t you think?)

End Rabbit Trail

The Scriptures tell us that we should always be ready to respond…
“But in your hearts set Christ apart as holy
[and acknowledge Him] as Lord.
Always be ready to give a logical defense
to anyone who asks you to account for the hope
that is in you,
but do it courteously and respectfully.
1 Peter 3:15 Amplified Bible

Following His direction to be wise as serpents,
Jesus gave further instruction on what to anticipate from our oppressors.
“Be on guard against men
[whose way or nature is to act in opposition to God];
for they will deliver you up to councils
and flog you in their synagogues,
And you will be brought before governors and kings
for My sake, as a witness to bear testimony before them
and to the Gentiles (the nations).”
Matthew 10:17-18 Amplified Bible

In such situations the Lord made it clear
that we will not have to plan how to respond,
because
“when they deliver you up,
do not be anxious about how or what you are to speak;
for what you are to say will be given you in that very hour and moment,
for it is not you who are speaking,
but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.”

To be continued…

Performance is the way of religion…
remember, it is Love that conquers all fear, never performance…
intimacy with God, is the pathway to courage, fulfillment and destiny..

Part 5 - Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves

“God is down in front.
He is in the tomorrows.
It is tomorrow that fills men with dread.
God is there already.
All the tomorrows of our life
have to pass Him before they can get to us.”
Frederick Brotherton (F.B.) Meyer

Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves – Part5

“Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves;
be wary and wise as serpents,
and be innocent
(harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves.”

Matthew 10:16 Amplified bible

How are Doves Harmless:

Throughout the world doves have become the symbol for peace.
When Noah wanted to determine if it was time
to come out of the arc, he released a dove.
When the bird returned it had an olive branch in its mouth.
Noah knew that God’s judgment on the earth was complete. (Genesis 8:8-11)

In the New Testament the dove is the symbol of the Holy Spirit.
When Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist,
the Word says “the Holy Ghost descended
in the bodily shape like a dove on him.” (Luke3:22)

The word that Jesus used for ‘harmless’ is akeraios,
which means “unmixed, innocent, pure,
without a mixture of evil, and free from guile.”

Paul used this same word when he wrote to believers in Rome:

“For while your loyalty and obedience is known to all,
so that I rejoice over you,
I would have you well versed and wise
as to what is good and innocent and guileless [akeraios]
as to what is evil.
And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
(the Messiah) be with you.
Romans 16:19-20 Amplified Bible

Solomon used the dove
as a picture of the purity of the bride (the church)
in the Song of Solomon.

“But my dove, my undefiled and perfect one,
stands alone [above them all];
she is the only one of her mother,
she is the choice one of her who bore her.
The daughters saw her and called her blessed and happy, yes, the queens and the concubines,
and they praised her.
Song of Solomon 6:9 Amplified Bible

How can we be both wise and innocent?
It is all too easy for us to search out evil
with our eyes and minds and become exposed
to the corruption of the world around us.

In doing so, we can find ourselves in the same trap
that enticed Adam and Eve, to know good and evil by experience.
If we fall short in this manner we prefer our own will above God’s will,
our understanding above His wisdom.

Since God desires us to be wise concerning good
and naïve about the shameful activities of evil,
we must depend upon the discernment of God’s Spirit
rather than our own intellect.

“Beloved, do not put faith in every spirit,
but prove (test) the spirits to discover
whether they proceed from God;
for many false prophets have gone forth into the world.”
1 John 4:1 Amplified Bible

Another characteristic of a snake
is that they rely more on their sense of smell
than they do on their eyesight.

They literally “test” the environment around them
with their olfactory senses.
Their complex sense of smell gives them
exceptionally accurate information about their surroundings,
often giving them more than they could gain with their eyes.
In the same manner Christ and we as His believers
are called to dependence not on what we see,
nor what we hear, but what we are shown by the Spirit.

“And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him—
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge
and of the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord--
And shall make Him of quick understanding,
and His delight shall be in
the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord.
And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes,
neither decide by the hearing of His ears;”
Isaiah 11:2-3 Amplified Bible

The wise will avoid danger and conceal themselves from harm.
The wise man is one who allows the Lord to control his words.
“The plans of the mind and orderly thinking belong to man,
but from the Lord comes the [wise] answer of the tongue.”
Proverbs 16:1 Amplified Bible

Part 4 - Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves

“Faith is a living, bold trust in God's grace,
so certain of God's favor that it would risk death
a thousand times trusting in it.
Such confidence and knowledge of God's grace
makes you happy, joyful and bold
in your relationship to God and all creatures.
The Holy Spirit makes this happen through faith.
Because of it, you freely, willingly and joyfully
do good to everyone, serve everyone, suffer all kinds of things,
love and praise the God who has shown you such grace.”
Martin Luther

Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves – Part4

“Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves;
be wary and wise as serpents,
and be innocent
(harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves.”
Matthew 10:16 Amplified bible

Jesus’ Examples of Subtlety:
If ever there was an example
of one being in the midst of the “wolves” it was Jesus.
The religious leaders of His time continually measured His words
looking for an opportunity to discredit His words.

They often asked Him craftily designed questions
hoping to trip Him up so that they could slander His responses.

It is noteworthy, that Jesus very often
answered their questions with a question.

When the Pharisees asked Jesus
if they should pay taxes to their Roman rulers,
Jesus simply replied, “Whose is this image and superscription [on this coin]?”
When the Pharisees answered, “Caesar’s,” Jesus gave a wise exhortation:
“Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s;
and unto God the things that are God’s.” (Matthew 22:20-21)

When Jesus’ disciples were picking corn on the Sabbath,
thus violating Jewish Law, the Pharisees challenged Him again.

Again the Lord responded with a query:
He said to them, Have you not even read
what David did when he was hungry,
and those who accompanied him,
how he went into the house of God
and ate the loaves of the showbread—
which was not lawful for him to eat,
nor for the men who accompanied him,
but for the priests only?
Or have you never read in the Law
that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple
violate the sanctity of the Sabbath
[breaking it] and yet are guiltless?
Matthew 12:3-5 Amplified Bible

On another occasion Jesus cleansed the Temple
by driving out the money changers,
and the rulers indignantly asked Him,
“By what authority do you do these things.”
Instead of answering their question he posed yet another question to them:

He replied to them, I will also ask you a question.
Now answer Me:
Was the baptism of John from heaven, or from men?
And they argued and discussed [it]
and reasoned together with themselves, saying,
If we reply, From heaven, He will say,
Why then did you not believe him?
But if we answer, From men,
all the people will stone us to death,
for they are long since firmly convinced
that John was a prophet
Luke 20:3-6 Amplified Bible

In yet another instance the Pharisees wanted to see
if Jesus would heal on the Sabbath.
Note how Jesus replied:
“But He said to them,
What man is there among you,
if he has only one sheep
and it falls into a pit or ditch on the Sabbath,
will not take hold of it and lift it out?
How much better and of more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful and allowable
to do good on the Sabbath days.”
Matthew 12:11-12 Amplified Bible

To be continued…

With joy may you draw living waters from the wells of salvation!

Part 3 - Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves

"There are two freedoms:
the false where a man is free to do what he likes;
and the true where a man is free to do as he ought."
Charles Kingsley

Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves – Part 3

“Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves;
be wary and wise as serpents,
and be innocent
(harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves.”
Matthew 10:16 Amplified bible
Being Wise as Serpents:

A common Greek word for wise is sophos.
This however, is not the word that Jesus used in this Scripture.
He used the word phronimos instead,
which has the added meaning of being
“thoughtful, sagacious, cautious, intelligent,
wise, prudent and mindful of one’s interests.”
The word phronimos comes from the word phren,
which stems from a word meaning to “curb or reign in.”
It most often relates to the feelings and emotions of our mind.

We are to rein in our natural emotions to situations
we face and allow the Spirit of God to be in control
so that His purposes can be accomplished in us and through us.

How are serpents wise do you ask?
I’m so glad you asked!
In the Scripture the first mention of a serpent is in Genesis 3:1.

“Now the serpent was more subtle and crafty
than any living creature of the field
which the Lord God had made.
And he [Satan] said to the woman,
Can it really be that God has said,
You shall not eat from every tree of the garden?”
Genesis 3:1 Amplified Bible

Note the subtlety of the serpent was expressed in a query.
The question was carefully designed
to raise doubts and discontent in Eve.
The enemy is utilizing the same tactics today as he did then.
The Hebrew word used here
for the subtlety of the serpent is aruwm,
which means cunning or prudent.
The form of the word used (the past participle)
communicates a negative meaning when subtlety is used
to accomplish some kind of evil act.
It means to be “craftily devious,” and “deceptive.”
The enemy of our souls is continually attempting
to take the character of God and twist it
in a manner in which will deceive us.

Subtlety in the Godly character is not in the least deceptive or evil.
Used in a Godly manner subtlety means
to be powerfully persuasive for the purpose of doing good.
That is why we read that the Proverbs were given to us
to give subtilty to the simple.” (Proverbs 1:4)

Practicing subtlety:

I’ve often said that I love all animals; but truth be told, there are a few that I’d rather avoid, snakes being near the top of the list. So, I know that it is the nature of a shake to avoid confrontation. If you are in the woods and want to avoid snakes, be sure to make lots of noise. Given a choice between attacking a person, or any animal the snake can’t eat, the snake will turn tail and slither away.

We can practice such subtlety by deflecting verbal assaults
with a wisely honed question.
In doing such we will experience an effective tactic
to diffuse the venom of hurtful words,
being wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove.

When the men of the city demanded the death of Gideon,
his father, Joash, gave a wise retort in the form of a query:
“But Joash said to all who stood against him,
Will you contend for Baal? Or will you save him?
He who will contend for Baal,
let him be put to death while it is still morning.
If Baal is a god, let him contend for himself
because one has pulled down his altar.”
Judges 6:31 Amplified Bible

May you know Him who is the Prince of Peace…

Part 2- Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves

“If we want the Word of God to have authority in our life,
there is only one way - obey it.
If we want the Holy Spirit to have authority in our life,
there is only one way - Obey Him.
If we always obey impulses of fear or doubt or resentment,
what will have authority over our minds?
Fear, and doubt and resentment.”
Tom Marshall

Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves – Part 2

“Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves;
be wary and wise as serpents,
and be innocent
(harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves.”
Matthew 10:16 Amplified bible

Sheep in the Midst of Wolves:

Wolves have powerful jaws and sharp teeth.

For sheep to be sent defenseless into the midst of wolves
will have the obvious result.
The sheep will wind up on the wolf’s dinner table.
One wolf is dangerous, but a pack of wolves is deadly.
In His instruction of Matthew 10:16,
Jesus is talking about a pack of “wolves.”
A defenseless sheep in the middle of a pack of wolves
has virtually no chance of living
without the faithful protection of a courageous shepherd.

In this passage, wolves are a symbol of cruel people
who bite and devour with their words.
Fewer things are commented on in the Scripture
than the debilitating affect of our words.

“…violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked” Proverbs 10:6b

“with his mouth the godless destroys his neighbor.” Proverbs 11:9

“Reckless words pierce like a sword.” Proverbs 12:18

“Do you see a man who speaks in haste?
There is more hope for a fool than for him.”
Proverbs 29:20

“Even so the tongue is a little member,
and it can boast of great things.
See how much wood or how great a forest
a tiny spark can set ablaze!
And the tongue is a fire.
[The tongue is a] world of wickedness
set among our members,
contaminating and depraving the whole body
and setting on fire the wheel of birth
(the cycle of man's nature),
being itself ignited by hell (Gehenna).”
James 3:5-6 Amplified Bible

The “wolves” that we are sent to might be
people in our own household, neighbors, co-workers,
church members, strangers at the supermarket, drugstore,
Wal-Mart, or someone half way around the world.
Often when we bear the aroma of the Master
we will meet rejection and persecution.
There are times that we will have to “shake the dust off our feet,”
[Mark 6:11; Luke 9:5; Acts 13:51]
even in our own households.
Jesus himself warned us saying,
“A man’s foes shall be they in his own household.” (Matthew 10:36)

Jesus said this was coming and that we shouldn’t be surprised. He said

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace upon the earth;
I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.
For I have come to part asunder a man from his father,
and a daughter from her mother,
and a newly married wife from her mother-in-law.”
(Matthew 10:34-35)

Jesus also observed that
“a prophet is not without honor, save in his own country,
and in his own house.” (Matthew 13:57)

Do you remember the account of Gideon tearing down his father’s altar?
He chose to tear down the alter in the middle of the night,
because he feared his father’s household and the men of the city. (Judges 6:27)

Some might think this demonstrated a lack of courage;
but indeed it demonstrated wisdom and instantaneous obedience.
He tore down the alter the very night he received the Lord’s command,
and averted what probably would have been a disastrous situation
had he waited to do it during the day.

To be continued…

My mouth will tell of Your righteousness,
of Your Salvation all day long,
although I do not understand its full measure!

Part 1 Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves

Wisdom is knowing when to speak your mind
and when to mind your speech.

Wise as Serpents and Harmless as Doves – Part 1

“Behold, I am sending you out like sheep in the midst of wolves;
be wary and wise as serpents,
and be innocent
(harmless, guileless, and without falsity) as doves.”
Matthew 10:16 Amplified bible

Jesus begins this statement with “I send you forth.” The word Christ used for ‘send forth’ is the Greek word apostello, from which we derive the English word apostle. Apostello means ‘to set apart and send out on a mission.’
The Lord used the same word to describe the sending out of the prophets and for the sending out of the twelve disciples to preach the good news of the Gospel message.

“Because of this, take notice:
I am sending you (apostello)
prophets and wise men (interpreters and teachers)
and scribes (men learned in the Mosaic Law and the Prophets);

some of them you will kill, even crucify,
and some you will flog in your synagogues
and pursue and persecute from town to town,”
Matthew 23:34 Amplified Bible

“And He appointed twelve to continue to be with Him,
and that He might send them out (apostello) to preach
[as apostles or special messengers]”
Mark 3:14 Amplified Bible

When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon he sent him out with this divine mission:
“The Lord turned to him and said,
Go in this your might,
and you shall save Israel from the hand of Midian.
Have I not sent you”
Judges 6:14 Amplified Bible

Jesus used the same term to describe His Father’s sending Him into the world

“Then Jesus said to them again, Peace to you!
[Just] as the Father has sent Me (apostello) forth,
so I am sending (apostello) you.”
John 20:21 Amplified Bible

We too, have been given this command
to go forth as apostles (set apart and sent out on a mission) for Christ.

Sheep:

In both the Old and New Testaments, believers are compared to sheep.
David’s Shepherd’s Psalm
“The Lord is my shepherd”
Isaiah’s observation that
“all we like sheep have gone astray” Isaiah 54
Jesus said in John 10:27
“My sheep hear my voice,
and I know them, and they follow me.”

Sheep are not very intelligent.
They have been known to wade into a pond to get a drink
and stand in the water until their wool becomes so saturated
that they can’t support their own weight.

Not having the sense to walk out of the water,
their legs give way under their own saturated weight,
and they drown where they stand.
Sheep also are virtually defenseless
against predators such as a lion, bear, or wolf.

They are slow creatures that are easily ensnared in thickets.
They really have no form of effective defense,
making them an easy prey.
In the eyes of the world,
such inadequacies are seen as deficiencies and weaknesses.

In God’s economy, however,
such characteristics can afford the release
of His mighty power through us,
as in our weakness God’s strength is perfected.

“But He said to me (Paul), My grace
(My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger
and enables you to bear the trouble manfully];
for My strength and power are made perfect
(fulfilled and completed)
and show themselves most effective in [your] weakness.
Therefore, I will all the more
gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities,
that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah)
may rest (yes, may pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me”
2 Corinthians 12:9 Amplified Bible

The greatest defense a sheep has
is to be attentive to the voice of its shepherd.

Staying close to a faithful shepherd
is the sheep’s only hope
when faced with the dangers of its world.
A faithful shepherd will place himself between his sheep
and the danger and drive the danger away.

Jesus says:
“I am the Good Shepherd;
and I know and recognize My own,
and My own know and recognize Me--
Even as [truly as] the Father knows Me
and I also know the Father—
and I am giving My [very own] life
and laying it down on behalf of the sheep.”
John 10:14-15 Amplified Bible

To be continued…

May the Words of the Lord be sweet to your taste,
sweeter than honey upon your lips…

The Little Things:

“We will be hassled by the schemes of the enemy,
but never hindered,
if we stand in the power and might of our God”
Pastor Dave Hess
Christ Community Church

The Little Things:

The Word of God never ceases to amaze those who embrace its wisdom daily. I am often surprised at the things the Holy Spirit will reveal, sometimes in little, seemingly insignificant passages. Truth be told, there are no insignificant passages of Scripture – every word was orchestrated by the Spirit with purpose and intent.
Recently I was reading in the twelfth chapter of John, a familiar passage about how the Pharisees and Teachers of the Law were conspiring to kill Jesus, after he had raised Lazarus from the dead. His fame was rapidly spreading amongst the people and they were “loosing face” and control of the populous.
The crowds of people were pressing in to see the Miracle Worker Jesus, but they were also anxious to meet Lazarus, the one He had raised from the dead.
“Now a great crowd of the Jews
heard that He was at Bethany,
and they came there, not only because of Jesus
but that they also might see Lazarus,
whom He had raised from the dead.”
John 12:9 Amplified Bible

When the miraculous happens, people are drawn to the occasion. The miraculous is our invitation to meet the Miracle Maker!
This is not what surprised me, but rather what follows in the next verse. Now, I’ve read this verse many times and failed to catch this subtle point.

“So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus to death also,
Because on account of him many of the Jews
were going away
[were withdrawing from and leaving the Judeans]
and believing in and adhering to Jesus.”

Almost immediately I thought of Peter’s observation:
“Beloved, do not be amazed and bewildered
at the fiery ordeal which is taking place to test your quality, as though something strange
(unusual and alien to you and your position)
were befalling you.
But insofar as you are sharing Christ's sufferings,
rejoice, so that when His glory
[full of radiance and splendor]
is revealed, you may also rejoice with triumph [exultantly].
If you are censured and suffer abuse
[because you bear] the name of Christ,
blessed [are you--happy, fortunate, to be envied,
with life-joy, and satisfaction in God's favor and salvation, regardless of your outward condition],
because the Spirit of glory, the Spirit of God,
is resting upon you.
On their part He is blasphemed,
but on your part He is glorified.
1 Peter4:12-14 Amplified Bible

Often when we are the recipient of God’s blessings and gifts, we can become a target for the world. They sought to put Lazarus to death that the Christ would not be glorified. The enemy still attempts to bring death upon those who carry the name of Jesus Christ. We may at times suffer for the cause of Christ, but greater is He who is in us than he that is in the world!

“Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him]
and have [already] defeated and overcome them
[the agents of the antichrist],
because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier)
than he who is in the world.”
1 John 4:4 Amplified Bible

“Remember that I told you,
A servant is not greater than his master
[is not superior to him].
If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you;
if they kept My word and obeyed My teachings,
they will also keep and obey yours.
John 15:20 Amplified Bible

With God we will gain the victory…
He has trampled down our enemies!

Paradoxes of Christ:

“Authority should not be considered a position of privilege
as much as a responsibility to be used for service.”
Rick Joyner – “First Century Church Government”

Paradoxes of Christ:

He is the Light,
yet He hung in darkness on the Cross…
He is the Life,
yet He poured out His soul unto death…
He is the Rock of Ages,
yet He lived only a short time on earth…
He is the Son of God,
yet he died a felon’s death…
He is holy, undefiled, separated from sinners and knew no sin,
yet He was “made sin” and took our places suffering in our stead.
He bids the weary to come to Him for rest,
yet He found no rest on earth,
until He said, "Teleos!" “It is finished,
and gave up His life to the Father.
He is a Mighty God,
yet He chose to be a man of weakness to be crucified.
He is the Image of the Invisible God,
yet His visage was marred more than any man.
All the fullness of the Godhead dwells in Him,
yet He took on the form of a servant and the likeness of man.
He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast,
yet He humbled Himself and became obedient – even unto death.
He is the desire of All Nations,
yet he was a despised and rejected man.
He is the Fountain of Life,
yet upon the Cross He cried, “I thirst!”

Can you understand these mysteries?
These are the things angels desire to look into…
All of the heavens cannot contain Him,
yet he died for you and me.

Selah –

The Lord dwells in Zion!

Taking the Mountains

"I was regretting the past and fearing the future.
Suddenly God was speaking: "My name is I am."
I waited and God continued:
"When you live in the past, with its mistakes and regrets, it is hard.
I am not there. My name is not I was.
When you live in the future, with its problems and fears, it is hard.
I am not there. My name is not I will be.
When you live in this moment, it is not hard.
I am here. My name is I AM."
Helen Mellincost

Taking the Mountains

One of the greatest lies which have ever been perpetrated
upon the Body of Christ, is the eschatology…
(Eschatology (from the Greek Eschatos meaning "last" and -logy meaning "the study of") is a part of theology and philosophy concerned with what is believed to be the final events in the history of the world, or the ultimate destiny of humanity.)
that the world is going to get more and more evil,
until there is one world government ruled by the antichrist.

Although no doubt this is the enemies aim,
this is not what the Bible teaches.

If you had proposed this theory
to the early fathers of the church
they would have looked at you dumbfounded
and thought you were quite insane.

Jesus taught his disciples to pray along these lines
“thy kingdom come, thy will be done…
in earth as it is in heaven.”
(Matthew 6:10)

God does not ask his people to do
what He does not expect carry out and fulfill.

He really intends to fully conquer the whole earth…
establishing the kingdom of heaven in this age

The problem with the church is
that they believe the lie
and are awaiting the Great Escape
at the expense of the Great Commission
to go and make disciples of all nations. (Acts 1:8)

8And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying,
"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
19"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you;
and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Matthew 28:18-20 (NASB)

God’s plan is to rule the earth through his church in this age,
not in the millennium.

He proclaims that He is coming back
to “a bride (church)without spot or wrinkle”
a church walking in the fullness of His Spirit and authority.
Our mandate is to fill the earth and subdue it…

God blessed them and said to them,
"Be fruitful and increase in number;
fill the earth and subdue it.
Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air
and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
Genesis 1:28 NASB

Jesus is not coming back
to a bride that is cowering in a cave
waiting to be raptured to safety.

In the second chapter of Daniel,
he (Daniel) reveals the details
of king Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.
It is noteworthy that all the kings
“wise men, astrologers, enchanters, magicians and diviners”
all shrank back from even trying to reveal the dream. (Daniel 2:27)
Real Truth will never be revealed
by the minds of men or the “powers” of darkness.

31"You, O king, were looking and behold,
there was a single great statue;
that statue, which was large
and of extraordinary splendor,
was standing in front of you,
and its appearance was awesome.
32"The head of that statue
was made of fine gold,
its breast and its arms of silver,
its belly and its thighs of bronze,
33its legs of iron,
its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.
34"You continued looking
until a stone was cut out without hands,
and it struck the statue
on its feet of iron and clay and crushed them.
35"Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver and the gold
were crushed all at the same time
and became like chaff from the summer threshing floors;
and the wind carried them away
so that not a trace of them was found
But the stone that struck the statue
became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.
Daniel 2:31-35 NASB my emphasis bold)

Now here is an eschatology you can hang-your-hat-on as a believer.
These five statue parts represented kingdoms upon the earth

from Nebuchadnezzar’s day until the day

that “the stone cut without hands” (Christ and his kingdom)

become a great mountain filling the whole earth.

And the joy beloved, is that we are privileged
to have the opportunity to be a part
of establishing this incredible victory!

There are seven mountains of cultural influence
that the church is called to “take or influence”
so that the kingdom of our God
can become the kingdom of this earth.

Now, O LORD our God, deliver us from his hand,
so that all kingdoms on earth may know
that you alone, O LORD, are God. "
Isaiah 37:20 NASB

These cultural areas of influence are:

The family:
It has long been said that
“the hand that rocks the cradle… controls the nation.”
We are engaged in a war over the mind control of our children.

The Church / Religion:
The Church is to equip for ministry
so that the world may embrace Christ

Education:
Education shapes the next generation of leaders
Most universities which were founded in Christ
have abandoned their spiritual call for secular humanism.

Government:
The founders of our Government stated that it would never work unless all who govern were Christians.

The Arts:
Spiritual truths were meant to be breathed by the arts.

Business, Science and Finance:
Look at the effect that Joseph and David had on government
Virtually all early scientific gain was birthed by believers

Media
Media has an enormous influence over people.

The whole earth is to be a reflection
of the fullness of the Godhead
and it is expressed in Christ Jesus.

16For by Him all things were created,
both in the heavens and on earth,
visible and invisible,
whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—
all things have been created through Him and for Him.
17He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
18He is also head of the body, the church;
and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.
19For it was the Father's good pleasure
for all the fullness to dwell in Him,
20and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself,
having made peace through the blood of His cross;
through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.
Colossians 1:16-20 NASB

Part 3 The Offerings in the Tabernacle: The Peace Offering

"Breath in me, O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy.
Act in me, O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy.
Draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, that I love but what is holy.
Strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy.
Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy."
Augustine

Part 3 The Offerings in the Tabernacle: The Peace Offering

There were five principal offerings in the tabernacle
and these were given to Moses from the erected tabernacle
at the foot of mount Sinai.
The Lord had filled the tabernacle
with his presence (Exodus 40:34-38).

The cloud settled upon and covered the outside of the tabernacle,
while on the inside it was filled with the glory of the Lord.

It was from here the Lord gave to Moses the 5 principle offerings
that were to be given.
This is recorded in Leviticus chapters 1 - 7,
they are listed in some detail in chapters 1 - 5 as follows : -

chapter 1 the Burnt offering
chapter 2 the Grain or meal offering
chapter 3 the Peace or Fellowship offering
chapter 4 the Sin offering
chapter 5 the Trespass or Guilt offering

The five offerings fall into two classifications;
the first three being offerings
given when in communion with God.

They are offerings of worship
and could be called sweet-savor offerings.

They were a sweet and pleasant fragrance to God
that gave him pleasure,
they speak of :
fellowship,
worship,
surrender,
acceptance,
and satisfaction.

Sweet-savor offerings were burnt within the camp
and were given freely, a freewill offering given to God.

The second two were given
for communion with God
and were a sacrifice for sin.

These were not the sweet smelling savor
because they spoke of sin and were obnoxious to God.

They were not burnt upon the altar of God
but outside the camp.

The believer came before God as a sinner,
confessing his sin and seeking forgiveness.

He was commanded by God to bring them to obtain pardon,
the sense of sin and guilt being prominent.

In addition to the detailed explanation given in chapters 1 - 5,
God then in chapters 6 & 7 changes the order,
to the order he requires them to be performed in.

The peace or fellowship offering
is taken from third place and positioned last.

It may be that God is saying to us that
the peace offering does not cause us to make
the sin or trespass sacrifices
that gain communion with God
but rather comes from
the consequence of communion with God.

We will continue to deal with them
in the order they were to be observed.

The Peace Offering
Leviticus 3:1-17
Note: the entirety of this Scripture
is included at the end of this study outline,
should you desire to read it first.

As we have already said
the peace offering
was third in revelation
but in practice took place last,

revealing that peace
is not the cause of communion with God
but the consequence of that communion.

The peace offering
is described in Leviticus chapter 3
and was a sweet-savor offering.

It was not compulsory but voluntary
like the burnt and grain offerings

although it differed
in that the peace offering was
shared between all three participating parties
God, the priests, and the believer.

The Hebrew word for peace is 'shalom'
and has a greater or fuller meaning
than the way peace is used today.

We define peace in English as
the absence of war or disturbance,
the cessation of hostilities
and harmonious agreement between people,
a state of stillness and tranquility.

The Hebrew word while accepting those things would add
prosperity,
well-being,
joy,
happiness,
wholeness.

Our English understanding of peace
has mainly a negative approach,
a lack of something,
whereas the Hebrew includes the positive aspects as well.

It was a sacrifice that was offered
when in communion with God

and can be divided into three kinds,
the Thank offering,
the Vow offering
and the Freewill offering.

The peace offerings
have their root in the state of grace
with its fellowship with God,

helping the Jews to be mindful of God
when in possession of and enjoying God's mercy,

and when adversity threatened
to obscure the awareness his feelings
of God's presence and love…
the offering would awaken his awareness
of God's nearness and mercy toward him.

It served to establish more firmly
this fellowship under divine grace.

In times of prosperity and success
he would obviously feel thankful to God
and show this by means of the sacrifice.

The believer would bring a
bullock, lamb, or a goat,

birds were not acceptable
because the offering was shared
between the three parties
and that the fat was to be God's portion
and there is a lack of fat on birds.

The animals brought could be either male or female
where in the other offerings a male was usually prescribed.

The animal also had to be without blemish
although interestingly enough
deformed animals could be allowed in freewill offerings.

The believer would take the victim
to the gate of the court of the tabernacle.

He then laid his hand upon the victims head
to identify with the animal, then he killed it.

The priest collected the blood
and sprinkled it on the side of the altar.

At this stage the fat of the intestines –
the same part as for the sin offering –
was taken from the animal
and burnt upon the bronze altar
as God's share in the offering.

The breast
and the right shoulder
were then separated from each other.

The shoulder being heaved - laid aside –
as the portion of the particular priest who made the sacrifice,

The shoulder was symbolic of strength,
a reminder that
the strength of the Lord is given to those who serve.

While the breast was waved symbolically
presenting it to the Lord,
from whom the priests received it for their own use.

The breast was a symbol of affection,

this gives a lovely picture of love being shared
by the participants in the peace offering.

All of the rest of the animal
belonged to the believer
,
furnishing the material for the sacrificial feast.

In the case of the thank offering
it had to be eaten the same day,

in other cases
some could be kept for the next day but no longer.

Whatever was not eaten in the prescribed time
had to be burnt,
but not on the altar.

In consequence of the consecrated character imparted
to the whole victim by giving the choicest portions to the Lord and to the officiating priest,
the sacrificial feast was transformed into a covenant feast.

The feast was shared with family and friends,
it was a feast of love and joy,
in which the believer was feasting with God.

Symbolizing the privilege of dwelling in the house
and the family of the Lord.

This time of fellowship was marked
by the rejoicing of God's people before Him
and the blessedness
of eating and drinking in the kingdom of God.

Leviticus 3
1 If a man's offering is a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offers an animal from the herd, whether male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the Lord.
2 He shall lay [both] his hands upon the head of his offering and kill it at the door of the Tent of Meeting; and Aaron's sons the priests shall throw the blood against the altar round about.
3 And from the sacrifice of the peace offering, an offering made by fire to the Lord, he shall offer the fat that covers and is upon the entrails,
4 And the two kidneys with the fat that is on them at the loins, and the appendage of the liver which he shall take away with the kidneys.
5 Aaron's sons shall burn it all on the altar upon the burnt offering which is on the wood on the fire, an offering made by fire, of a sweet and satisfying odor to the Lord.
6 If his peace offering to the Lord is an animal from the flock, male or female, he shall offer it without blemish.
7 If he offers a lamb, then he shall offer it before the Lord.
8 He shall lay [both] his hands on the head of his offering and kill it before the Tent of Meeting; and Aaron's sons shall throw its blood around against the altar.
9 And he shall offer from the peace offering as an offering made by fire to the Lord: the fat of it, the fat tail as a whole, taking it off close to the backbone, and the fat that covers and is upon the entrails,
10 And the two kidneys, and the fat on them at the loins, and the appendage of the liver, which he shall take away with the kidneys.
11 The priest shall burn it upon the altar, a food offering made by fire to the Lord.
12 If [a man's] offering is a goat, he shall offer it before the Lord,
13 And lay his hands upon its head, and kill it before the Tent of Meeting; and the sons of Aaron shall throw its blood against the altar round about.
14 Then he shall offer from it as his offering made by fire to the Lord: the fat that covers and is on the entrails,
15 And the two kidneys and the fat that is on them at the loins, and the appendage of the liver which he shall take away with the kidneys.
16 The priest shall burn them on the altar as food, offered by fire, for a sweet and satisfying fragrance. All the fat is the Lord's.
17 It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations in all your dwelling places, that you eat neither fat nor blood.

“If you are grateful for what God has done in your past,
you will be trustful of what He will do in your future.”

“Jesus then said to them, I assure you,
most solemnly I tell you,
Moses did not give you the Bread from heaven
[what Moses gave you was not the Bread from heaven],
but it is My Father Who gives you
the true heavenly Bread.”
John 6:32 Amplified Bible

Jesus instructs us to ask for “daily bread” from our heavenly Father.
“Pray, therefore, like this:
Our Father Who is in heaven,
hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven
(left, remitted, and let go of the debts,
and have given up resentment against) our debtors.
And lead (bring) us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power
and the glory forever. Amen.”
Matthew 6:9-13 Amplified Bible (my emphasis bold)

It is essential that we seek God's presence and direction
each morning, and throughout the day,
for His daily word for our lives… our daily bread… the Bread of Life… the Living Word!
Seeking the guidance of the Lord means
that we will walk assured
that His presence accompanies us through our day.
His Word and His Spirit will give us direction for each day,
and it is important that we be quick to obey that word… our daily bread.

We must endeavor to be quickly obedient to God,
even if we don’t fully understand, or if the task seems difficult.
Abraham rose early in the morning in order to sacrifice Isaac on the altar.
God blessed his obedience
and provided a ram as an acceptable sacrifice in place of Isaac.

“So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey,
and took two of his young men with him and his son Isaac;
and he split the wood for the burnt offering,
and then began the trip to the place of which God had told him.
On the third day Abraham looked up
and saw the place in the distance.
And Abraham said to his servants,
Settle down and stay here with the donkey,
and I and the young man will go yonder and worship
and come again to you.
Then Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering
and laid it on [the shoulders of ] Isaac his son,
and he took the fire (the firepot) in his own hand,
and a knife; and the two of them went on together.
And Isaac said to Abraham, My father!
And he said, Here I am, my son. [Isaac] said,
See, here are the fire and the wood,
but where is the lamb for the burnt sacrifice?
Abraham said, My son, God Himself will provide a lamb
for the burnt offering.
So the two went on together.
When they came to the place of which God had told him,
Abraham built an altar there; then he laid the wood in order
and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar on the wood.
And Abraham stretched forth his hand
and took hold of the knife to slay his son.
But the Angel of the Lord called to him from heaven

and said, Abraham, Abraham! He answered, Here I am.
And He said, Do not lay your hand on the lad or do anything to him;

for now I know that you fear and revere God,
since you have not held back from Me
or begrudged giving Me your son, your only son.
Then Abraham looked up and glanced around,
and behold, behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by his horns.

And Abraham went and took the ram and offered it up
for a burnt offering and an ascending sacrifice instead of his son!
So Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide.

And it is said to this day, On the mount of the Lord it will be provided.
Genesis 22:3-14 Amplified Bible

David also rose early in the morning when he went out to meet Goliath.
Jesus, often rose early to seek His Father’s will.
Can we afford to do less?

Let all the upright in heart praise the Lord…
